Fifth World Centre Pilot Project – Community Action Experience in Kenya

general_145The Fifth World Centre Pilot Project has launched the Community Action Experience in Kenya and is seeking participants! This is a one-month experience where participants will have the opportunity to involve themselves in Kenyan life and culture while undertaking a Community Action project as part of the Fifth World Centre Pilot Project. Participants will also contribute to the development of the community at the Shanzu Transitional Centre in Kenya.

 

Calling all climate advocates…Represent WAGGGS at COP 19

WAGGGS has been taking delegations of young women to UN climate conferences since 2009 to speak out for the rights of Girls and Young Women and directly engage with decision-makers at a global level. COP is also an opportunity for WAGGGS members to promote their Member Organizations and personal climate change projects.

 

 

Spotlight on: Our Cabana summer 2013

thumb_our-cabana-2.1.jpgOur Cabana was officially set up in 1957 in Mexico. This summer they are busy getting ready for the Western Hemisphere Regional Conference which they are hosting, as well as enjoying welcoming new staff and volunteers.

“Summer 2013 at Our Cabana is promising to be busy and full of new experiences. With our normal events we will also host independent groups for the Western Hemisphere Regional Conference as well as summer courses for local children.

Being a hummingbird in the international climate change negotiations

thumb_small-youth-publication-launch.jpgWAGGGS has just returned from UNFCCC SB 38, the Climate Change Inter-sessionals which take place every year in between the COP (Conference of Parties) conferences.  Harriet Thew, WAGGGS’ Environment Project Coordinator, was joined by Cecilia Wesslén from Sweden, a WAGGGS COP 18 delegate and climate scientist, who will come back as a coordinator to COP 19 and Magda Noszczyk, a delegate from Poland, the host country for COP 19, who attended COP 14 in Poznan with a Polish NGO and works in climate change education.

Launching of Asia Pacific Region 40th Anniversary history book

thumb_40th-anniversary-round.jpgAs a follow up to the 40th Anniversary celebrations of the Asia Pacific Region in 2009, it was decided that the Asia Pacific Regional Committee will produce a book on the history of the Asia Pacific Region. Jan MacIntyre, former Asia Pacific Field Executive Trainer was commissioned to do this project. The aim of the project is to outline the achievements and history of the past 40 years showing how the Region has significantly contributed to the development of girls and young women.
